Transitioning to Plant Based Foods/ Five weeks of food, fun and Evolution to Vital Health

Tuesdays, January 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, 6-7:30 PM

Join Katherine and learn the "Joy of Food Preparation",  a 5 week series that will kick off with the movie 'Forks Over Knives' and some healthy treats to snack on!    Enjoy the simplicity of becoming the healthiest you in 2012!  We will journey through breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks receiving mouthwatering menus, healthful tips and most of all have fun creating luscious recipes.  All foods served will be from the finest organic ingredients!  Each week will focus on one topic...beginning with breakfast.  WARNING!!!!  This knowledge will save your life if you use it!  $140.00 per person for all five classes.....special price of $200.00 per couple.  All registration is in advance.  For more information please call Katherine Jouan 941-544-4249.

Katherine is a Health Coach and graduate of Duke Integrative Medicine and is Certified in Plant Based Nutrition through Cornell University.  She has been Vegan for over 30 years and currently specializes in helping people transition to a plant based diet through one-on-one coaching and group sessions.  She owns a family run Live Food Business "Simply Organix" and "Integrative Health and Bodyworks " located at The Open Studio in the Therapeutic Arts House

  

Boosting the Immune System with Diet & Herbs - Linda Nelson   

Saturday, January 14th, 10 - 12pm, $28

Learn how to keep healthy and strong through the winter season by eating a healthful diet and regularly taking herbs that boost the immune system.  We will also make a pot of Turkey Soup infused with immune boosting herbs which we will enjoy for lunch and each person will take home a muslin bag filled with these herbs for their next pot of soup.  Bring your favorite soup bowl.

Make & Take Herbal Vinegars - Linda Nelson                                                            

Thursday, January 19th, 9 - 10am, $15

Making herbal vinegars is fun and easy and adds not only a wonderful taste but medicinal properties to your salads.  Each person will pick an assortment of fresh herbs from the gardens at TOS to make their own vinegar to take home.

Coffee Roasting Class - Tom Williams

Saturday, January 7th, 11 a.m. until 12:00 or 12:30, $20 - includes a pint of freshly-roasted coffee beans to take home!

You will learn about the coffee bean, how it is roasted, cared for, and brewed.  You will also participate in a roast, drink a cup of seasoned fresh coffee, and take home a pint of roasted beans for your next cups of coffee.  The class will be held outside at The Open Studio.


Our organic green coffee beans are from Chiapas, Mexico, purchased from CAFÉ MAM, a Fair Trade business.  For those interested in a broader source of beans check out  the "Sweet Mariaâ™" website. Sweet Maria's also has an excellent glossary of coffee terms and is worth reading before the class.
